StumbleUpon

Fascinated with the Cat

Originally uploaded by Wes Devauld

So I decided I would check out some more Social Media sites on the internet and found StumbleUpon. StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more. So once you have created an account, you can choose from many areas of interest that you would like to discover. Once you have done this and installed the addon in Firefox, you will see in your toolbar at the top a Stumble button and it will take you to different sites that reflect your choice of interests. Then you can choose either that you like it or don’t like it.

So the first thing I StumbledUpon is this Cat Brain. I thought it was hilarious and was very accurate for how cats act. The only difference with my cat is she likes most dogs and finds them fun to play with. But that is so true how cats are infatuated with people who dislike cats. And that they will go where they are not allowed to go just to piss you off.

Enjoy StumbleUpon! I am sure I will StumbleUpon more great sites that I will share with you later.

Warmer Weather

I am excited for what 2009 brings to me. With my job hunt, I have learned many things about myself and about what makes me tick and love my job. So with that said, that makes me eager and excited to start a new job. I am very positive that a great career opportunity will be in my hands in no time. I have a tremendous amount of support from Wes and all of my friends!!

Well I think that is it for today. Not too much from VanZwaaij.com this week but that will change very quickly!!! :)

The job hunt is on…

So I am enjoying that so far but since it is very part time, I am still looking for a full time job.

Over Christmas and New Years, the job hunting slows down to a stand still so as soon as Jan 5th, yesterday, rolled around, I began applying for more jobs in Calgary. I know I have a lot to offer a company. I know the right job is at my fingertips, but how long will it take to start?

Setting up photo blogging

30 Dec

But when I decided to put photos on my blog I encountered a problem. Flickr kept telling me that I had an incorrect username and password which I checked numerous times and knew was correct. So I did a little research on the internet and discovered that there is one little box you need to have a check mark into to make this work.

So if you go in your WordPress blog Settings and choose Writing Settings and about half way down that page you will see:

XML-RPC: XML-RPC Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.

Make sure you have this box checked and then save settings and then go back to flickr and setup the blog this photo and it should work! It worked for me as soon as that box was checked.

Back home in Calgary

29 Dec

So we had a wonderful Christmas in Dawson Creek, Grand Prairie and Pouce Coupe. It was a busy 4 days with lots of visiting and lots of eating. We had a lot of fun visiting with all the aunts, uncles, grandmas, mothers, cousins, and nieces. I think I must have eaten enough food to last me to the New Year. Now back to eating normal amounts of food and sugar. I really enjoy Christmas time since it is a time to share and love and enjoy everyone’s company.

I was extremely happy to visit with Courtney when we were in Grand Prairie since I do not get to see her often. Since we have been friends since we were 3, it is so special to be able to visit and see her cute growing family. Lots of love to you Courtney, Chris, Johanna and Annika!!!

So we drove back yesterday from Grand Prairie and the drive was great. The roads were clear for almost the whole way until we hit about 45 mins north of Calgary when the snow started coming down and blowing all over the place. But I was sure happy when we pulled up to our house and unpacked the car.

Well tomorrow Mira arrives to hang out with us for a New Years! I am looking forward to her visit.

I hope everyone has a safe trip home and a very Happy New Years.

Christmas

23 Dec

So Wes and I are off to Dawson Creek tomorrow to visit family. It should be quite an adventure driving the 9.5 hours up to Dawson Creek in the mighty winter that surrounds us. But we will take our time and do the usual 2 hour drive then switch drivers. It’s the driving technique that works so well for us so that you have a great break in the passenger seat with a blanket and pillow.

I am really looking forward to spending Christmas this year with Wes’s family and his cute neices. Having children around for Christmas day just adds that extra magic of Christmas. I am sure we will eat and eat till we can eat no more. But then that is all part of Christmas. Eating too much and enjoying it so much!!!

Well I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and very safe travels to your destination for Christmas. 2009 is just around the corner and I know that it is going to be a fabulous year!

Calgary Winter Chaos

18 Dec

I thought I would write a little about the craziness in Calgary when snow hits the ground. And since we have been getting snow for the past couple weeks on a pretty regular basis, the chaos on the Calgary roads happens pretty much daily. It either takes you hours to get to work or to your destination or you spend your time driving trying to avoid the bad drivers in Calgary and we all know there are lots of bad drivers in Calgary.

So each day  this week I have left earlier and earlier and still it does not get me to work any faster. But along with great dumps of snow comes the beautiful cover on Calgary – hiding all the brown we have for most of the year. So yes its very pretty and when the sun comes out it all sparkles and shines but if the temperature stayed around 0 or just under without wind I would enjoy spending time outside in the winter. But with the -20 and -40 temperatures, I would way rather watch the snow fall out the window!!!

So Wes and I are driving up to Dawson Creek on Christmas Eve day. The pathfinder went in the shop yesterday and got a new exhaust system so we are in solid shape now. My fingers are crossed that the weather stays dry and warms up. Wish us luck on our long journey to the north….

More coming soon…
